Background
David Bell is President & CEO of ALPS Corporation, a national lawyers malpractice carrier based in Missoula, MT. ALPS operates in 38 states and is the largest insurer of lawyers malpractice in five states, including Montana.
David joined ALPS in 2012 from Allied World Assurance Company (NYSE: AWH), a $3 billion dollar publicly traded global (re)insurance company founded in the wake of 9/11 by Chubb, AIG and Goldman Sachs. Bell was a founding executive and served as the COO before leaving AWH to return to Montana.
He began his professional career with The Chubb Corporation as an Executive Protection Underwriting Manager. Bell’s role within Chubb expanded to include serving as the Corporate Legislative Liaison in Florida.
David founded and serves on the board of Grateful Nation Montana, a first-of-its-kind in the nation organization that provides tutoring, mentoring and a college education for the children of all Montana soldiers killed while on active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has appeared on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, Fox & Friends and numerous other television and radio outlets talking about the need to make the Grateful Nation mission of tutoring, mentoring and funding college educations for the children of our fallen soldiers a national priority.
David served on the board and as president of PLUS (Professional Liability Underwriting Society), the largest insurance industry association focused on education. He currently serves on the board of the Bank of Montana. He has presented to the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), focusing on expropriation and kidnap/ransom in Asia and the Middle East, and he has spoken and written extensively on the subject of insurance risk transfer.
In 2010 David authored a book titled The Best Quotes on Business, Leadership & Life, which is available from Amazon, Barnes & Nobel and other retailers. David is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO). He and his wife Brittany have two children, Trent and Ivy.
